Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers responds to Ollie Watkins message amid Chelsea links

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has responded to a message from teammate Ollie Watkins amid links to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Since joining Villa from Championship club Middlesbrough in 2024, Rogers has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League.

Last season, the England international scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists across all competitions for the West Midlands side.

Meanwhile, former Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness previously told Football Insider that Villa may need to raise £200million after failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

While Rogers has been linked with Chelsea, Villa will also hope to retain Watkins this summer, after the striker enjoyed another successful season.

Meanwhile, posting on Instagram [17 June], Watkins celebrated his wedding day: “The best weekend of my life. Mr and Mrs Watkins.”

Rogers commented with three red-heart emojis while he featured in England’s defeat to Senegal on Tuesday, 10 June.

Rogers would be a great signing for Enzo Maresca

Villa would be devastated to lose Rogers to Chelsea this summer, after the attacking midfielder played a crucial role in their remarkable run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Rogers enjoyed a stellar campaign

The England star epitomised his ability to perform on the big stage when he put Unai Emery’s men 1-0 up in the first leg of their Champions League last-eight clash with PSG on 9 April.

Villa were ultimately beaten 3-1 in Paris that night, but it was through no fault of the 22-year-old, who proved he is worthy of playing at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Chelsea could take a major step towards establishing themselves as Premier League title contenders if they signed Rogers, who could go on to thrive under Enzo Maresca.

Playing alongside the likes of fellow former Manchester City men Cole Palmer and Liam Delap could help the England ace hit a new level ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
