Aston Villa news: Agbonlahor issues ‘massive’ Ezri Konsa claim after source’s transfer reveal

Ezri Konsa was “outstanding” on his return to the Aston Villa starting XI and he still has a major role to play under Steven Gerrard.

That is the view of Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Konsa.

An Aston Villa source told Football Insider on Friday (25 February) they will listen to offers for the centre-back in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old started Villa’s 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday (26 February) after missing their two previous games through suspension.

It was just their second win and second clean sheet in their last nine games across all competitions.

“It was a massive result,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Not many teams go to Brighton and get a result like that, it’s a very tough place to go.

“The defence looked a lot better with Konsa back in it, he was outstanding.

“People have to give Aston Villa time. They will have up and down performances but you have to give Steven Gerrard time. Once we get into the summer he can add a few players to the core of the team and get stronger.

“Performances like that against Brighton, show the players are really loyal to the manager and are doing exactly what he wants them to do.

“With Konsa, people forget about the partnership with Tyrone Mings last season, how good they were defensively. You can’t forget that.

“There’s a few new players in, it will take time for them to get used to each other.”

In other news, Aston Villa have been told ‘referees cannot ignore it’ as a star player is set to be ‘fined’ over a controversy.
