Exclusive: Michael Brown scorns Aston Villa for 'rushing' into new signing
Aston Villa have “rushed” into the signing of Morgan Sanson and there is no obvious place for him as a starter in Dean Smith’s side.
That is according to ex-Premier League star Michael Brown, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa confirmed the £14million signing of the box-to-box midfielder from Marseille on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old is highly-rated but there have been one or two questions posed about what his role in the Villa engine room will be.
John McGinn and Douglas Luiz have cemented themselves as Dean Smith’s first-choice midfield pairing this seasons, with Ross Barley and Jack Grealish occupying more advanced roles.
And Brown was slightly puzzled as to where Sanson might fit into the Villain’s starting XI, suggesting that the club may have hurried into the deal.
Asked what he made of the transfer, Brown told Football Insider: “I’m not sure, I think they were already quite well equipped in midfield. As we know, they’ve done well there. Barkley has been great, Grealish has been superb. Where does he slot in?

“So I’m surprised they’ve rushed into this sort of agreement at the moment. But we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out.”
Sanson wasn’t registered in time to play a part in the matchday squad as Villa suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat away to relegation strugglers Burnley on Wednesday.
That loss leaves them with just one win their last six outings, though they have faced difficult opponents in Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City in that stretch.
