Aston Villa news: Marvelous Nakamba tipped to start v Tottenham after development in recent hours - Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Marvelous Nakamba could come straight back into the Aston Villa starting XI against Tottenham now he is fit.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Nakamba has more of an effect on games than Douglas Luiz in the defensive midfield role.
As reported by the Athletic’s Gregg Evans today (8 April) the 28-year-old is available for the visit of Tottenham on Saturday (9 April).
He has not featured since suffering a serious knee injury in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool last year (11 December).
Prior to that, Nakamba was playing his best football in a claret and blue shirt and had established himself as one of the first names on Steven Gerrard’s teamsheet.
“You look at Nakamba and he can affect games more than Luiz,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s got better legs, he’s better at tackling and he’s going to get the ball back.
“When he’s back ready to start, he will start before Luiz.
“On paper, Aston Villa have got a very good squad of players but some of them are underperforming.
“Gerrard will want to cut out those individual mistakes. The amount of those are costing them.
“When you concede two goals the game is done. You can’t always expect to come from 2-0 down and get a result.”
Nakamba has played 15 games across all competitions this term, including eight Premier League starts.
The Zimbabwe international is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2024.
