Aston Villa news: Multiple exits lined up after Diego Carlos reveal – Whelan

Noel Whelan has insisted several Aston Villa players are in line for the exit door after the arrivals of Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heralded the Villans for getting their transfer business done early this summer.

Villa confirmed last week (26 May) they have agreed transfer terms with Sevilla to sign Carlos, 29.

The Midlands heavyweights have also got deals for Philippe Coutinho and Kamara over the line.

However, Whelan admitted the Villans’ squad could become “saturated” with new signings through the door.

As such, he suggested “a few” players will be in line for the exit over the coming months.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “If you’re bringing players in, you can’t saturate your squad. You’ve got to let a few of the loose ones go that you’re not convinced about.

“Steven Gerrard won’t be scared to do that. He wants to get a squad and assemble a squad that is going to be very, very strong for next season. We’ve seen what they can do this year already. They’re looking to progress on to the next level.

“You can see that with the players that they have bought already. They’re doing their business very quickly. I love the way Villa do their business and get players into the club. It’s very quick.

“They’re targeted, they’re talked to and they sign, it’s as simple as that. It’s a great feeling for a manager when you’ve got a board that don’t mess around in transfers and let them drag on.”

Villa turned Coutinho’s loan deal from Barcelona permanent, while Kamara will join on a free transfer after leaving Marseille.
