Aston Villa player ratings v Fulham: Duo need to be sold

By Amir Mir

Football Insider rates the Aston Villa players out of ten after their 3-1 defeat at Fulham on Easter Monday.

Sam Johnstone 5 – The on-loan goalkeeper will be disappointed he didn’t deal with the first goal but he was not at fault for the poor defensive performance from his side.

James Bree 4 – The defeat against Fulham was a learning curve for the youngster, who had a difficult afternoon trying to deal with 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon.

James Chester 4 – As the captain and the club’s main man at the back, he should have marshalled his troops during tough periods of the game.

Tommy Elphick 4 – His effort and commitment cannot be faulted but Fulham’s passing and movement was just too much for the senior man. Should be sold in the summer, simply not good enough.

Nathan Baker 4 – Just like Elphick and Chester, he should have dealt with the constant amount of balls that were being played into the box. It was too easy for the promotion-chasing side.

Jack Grealish 5 – Scored a brilliant goal in the second half but needs to add more consistency to his game. Poor first half display from the Villa academy product. Passed the ball better after the break.

Mile Jedinak 4 – Fought throughout the match, tried providing the defensive cover but his teammates let him down.

Gary Gardner 3 – Couldn’t cope with the movement and passing ability of the home side added with the fact that he didn’t provide the defensive solidity for his team.

Jordan Amavi 2- Yet another pathetic display from the 23-year-old, who has produced back-to-back mistake-ridden performances. He was destroyed by Ryan Fredricks on the left-hand side throughout the game. Needs to be sold.

Scott Hogan 4 – Barley threatened but he cannot be blamed because he was playing up front on his own for the majority of the match.

Jonathan Kodjia 2 – Low rating for his daft dismissal early in the game. He will now miss the Birmingham clash on Sunday.

Alan Hutton 6 (for Bree, 70mins)

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy 5 (for Amavi, 78mins)

Conor Hourihane 5 (for Hogan, 81mins)
