By Matt Farr
Football Insider rates the Aston Villa players during their 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship on Saturday.
Sam Johnstone 6 – A rare quiet day at the office for the Villa stopper, as Sheffield Wednesday were wasteful in attack.
James Bree 7 – Decent attacking bursts. Handled the threat of Adam Reach competently.
James Chester 7 – Contained the opposition attack throughout.
Nathan Baker 6 – A shaky start, picking up an early yellow card. Afternoon cut short with injury.
Neil Taylor 7 – Experienced showed at the back as he took charge and kept the Sheffield Wednesday attack quiet on the right.
Mile Jedinak 7 – Shielded the back four expertly. Dropped back into central defence in the absence of Baker, but made life difficult for Jordan Rhodes and co.
Gary Gardner 6 – Conceded a couple of fouls, but demonstrated his desire to win the ball back for his team.
Conor Hourihane 8 – Superb cross to pick out Kodjia. Drove forward with purpose and was a big influence in the attacking third.
Jordan Amavi 7 – Some marauding runs. Looked the part on the left wing.
Albert Adomah 6 – Could have been more composed in front of goal, but put the hard work in beforehand. Claimed an assist for the second goal.
Jonathan Kodjia 9 – Clever play and excellent header from the 27-year-old attacker to open the scoring. Showed great hunger and persistence when out of possession. Netted a deserved second in a stunning performance.
Subs:
Alan Hutton 6 (for Baker 25) – Performed aptly in an unfamiliar right midfield role. Worked very hard.
Tommy Elphick 6 (for Adomah 82)
Keinan Davis 6 (for Kodjia 86)
