Sources: Aston Villa prepare bumper Matty Cash contract offer to fend off giants

Aston Villa are preparing a bumper new deal for defender Matty Cash to fend off growing Atletico Madrid interest, Football Insider understands.

The Spanish giants are lining up a move for the 24-year-old in the summer as they look to replace Kieran Trippier following his move to Newcastle in January.

Cash has impressed for Villa this season and a Spanish source has told Football Insider that Atletico scouts have been making regular checks on him.

He has over three years to run on his current deal at Villa Park after joining from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2020.

But the Midlands giants are ready to hand him fresh terms to try and ward off the interest from Atletico.

The full-back has been an ever-present for Steven Gerrard’s side this season in the Premier League, chipping in with three goals and three assists in 28 games.

Slough-born Cash has Polish ancestry and made his debut for the national team in November last year.

He has won two Poland caps in total and was named in the squad for the friendly clash against Scotland on Thursday (24 March).

The defender graduated from Forest’s youth academy in 2016 and went on to make 141 appearances for them over five seasons.

He won Forest’s Player of the Season award in 2019-20, his final campaign with the club.

Villa, who were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal last Saturday (19 March), are currently 9th in the Premier League standings.
