Aston Villa ready ‘£90m’ sale to avoid PSR blow – Keith Wyness
Aston Villa have ambitions of returning to European football next season but will have to negotiate another tricky summer window after recording losses in recent years.
Under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Premier League clubs are only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period and Villa have had issues complying – losing more than £200million in the last two seasons.
Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman all moved on before last year’s accounting deadline – while Jhon Duran left the club for Saudi Arabia in January for a mega-money fee.
The Times reported earlier this month (4 April) that Villa are exploring selling stakes in their women’s team to help them comply with the PSR regulations.
Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed how much the Midlands giants could rake in by following in the footsteps of Chelsea.

Aston Villa women’s side could be valued at £90m, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he expects Villa to value their women’s side at around £90million – but anticipates they will run into the same issues as Chelsea.
Chelsea sold their women’s side for £200million, but that transaction has not been accepted by Uefa – who are now pursuing the London club for breaking their spending rules.
Wyness claimed he expects Villa to press on regardless and admitted the Premier League has become a “financial game”.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think they may do this before any loophole is closed.
“Now, the calculation – as I understand it – applying the same formula as Chelsea, would result in Villa valuing their women’s side at £90million.
“They will run into the same issues as Chelsea, having to pay a fine to Uefa.

“They’ll not want to risk the European revenue.
“Villa would be taking a risk because we don’t know what kind of fine Chelsea may end up with, but I think they’re going to go ahead and do this.
“We’re getting to the stage now where the Premier League is becoming a bit of a financial game in many ways.
“It’s more about who has got the cleverest ideas on loopholes. It’s not great, but this is where we’re at.
“Villa will try everything they can. They did say – by hook or by crook, they want to be in the top six.”

Aston Villa stance on shock Rogers transfer revealed
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last week (9 April) that Aston Villa are confident of keeping Morgan Rogers this summer despite potential interest from Man City.
City have been linked with a shock move to bring the 22-year-old back to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Sources say three-cap England international Rogers is happy at Villa Park after signing a contract running until June 2030 late last year (2024).
