Aston Villa ready to sign two goalkeepers after Emiliano Martinez update

Aston Villa are ready to rebuild their goalkeeping department with two new signings this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Robin Olsen has already left the club on a free transfer, while Emiliano Martinez is expected to depart after five years at Villa Park.

It is believed Martinez, 32, has interest in England, Spain and in the Saudi Pro League and is inching towards the exit door early in the summer window.

Villa are smart operators under transfer guru Monchi and have lined up an extensive list of targets to replace the World Cup winner.

Chevalier and Garcia top Aston Villa shortlist

It is believed that Lille shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier and Espanyol star man Joan Garcia are high on the shortlist – but the latter is expected to join Barcelona.

Martinez waved an emotional goodbye to the Aston Villa faithful in their last home game of the season – an unexpected sign he will be leaving the club this summer.

Martinez’s Aston Villa record (2020 – present)

He has been key to the rise of Unai Emery‘s side but dropped a costly clanger in what could be his last appearance for the club, after he was sent off in the loss against Man United as Villa missed out on a top-five finish.

The shot-stopper, who is under contract until June 2029, kept 16 clean sheets in 53 games during the 2024-25 campaign.

Olsen has already sealed a free transfer move to Malmo and will be replaced by a new second-choice option in time for the 2025-26 campaign.

Olsen has already sealed his Aston Villa exit after three years at the club.

Aston Villa could accept £30m Martinez bid

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last month (19 May) that Villa could accept bids of at least £30million for Martinez – a surprisingly low figure considering his importance and stature as one of the world’s best shot-stoppers.

Emery’s side must balance the books and may need to make further sales after failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Leon Bailey has also waved goodbye to the club’s fans and Football Insider has already revealed (30 April) that Aston Villa plan to accept offers for the winger.
