‘Aston Villa to land new windfall’ after stunning £43m boost

Aston Villa have seen success in recent seasons under Unai Emery but have struggled to keep pace with top clubs in the Premier League without breaking spending rules.

The Midlands giants were forced to sell first-team stars last summer (2024) to ensure they didn’t exceed the allowed loss of £105million over three years under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

As such, Villa are pushing to unleash new revenue streams to ensure they can remain competitive on the pitch.

Per the Deloitte Money League (23 January), Villa increased their matchday revenue from £27.8million in the 2022-23 campaign to £43million in the last season.

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – had his say on where his old side could go next to grow revenue.

Aston Villa have ‘burning desire’ to uncover new revenue streams

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the upcoming Villa Park regeneration will make a “big difference” to matchday revenue at the club.

SeasonMatchday Revenue (€)
2023-2452million
2022-2333million
2021-2226million
2020-211million

Aston Villa unveiled plans for a new plaza in December 2024, including the launch of a 3,500-seat venue called ‘The Warehouse’ – which the club claim will be the largest beer hall in the Premier League.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This expansion will make a big difference for Villa’s matchday revenue.

“They’ve got The Warehouse coming, which is going to hold 3,500 fans – making it the biggest beer hall/entertainment venue in the Premier League.

“That’ll be a destination in its own right.

“They’re hoping to hold events there in the week as well.

“That’s the main part, and the rest will come with tinkering with hospitality – which will all certainly add revenue.

“They are investing on the pitch, and off the pitch I know there is a burning desire to add more revenue streams as well.

“I think they will be getting far more than £1million per game at Villa Park.”

Aston Villa plot permanent Asensio move

Former Villa scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that plans are in place to sign Marco Asensio on a permanent deal.

Asensio’s vast experience across some of Europe’s top teams – including Real Madrid and PSG – is also viewed as a valuable asset to Emery’s side.

Emery and Villa’s coaching staff have been impressed with the Spaniard’s performances in the early stages of his loan deal and are already leaning towards making the move permanent.
