Aston Villa set to land £200m windfall as Stefan Borson breaks down prize money
Aston Villa are on course to earn £200million in broadcast revenue following their outstanding performances this season.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it could prove to be an “amazing” campaign for Unai Emery’s side.
Villa currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, the West Midlands giants are into the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they will face Bologna this month.
Villa’s financial situation is set to receive a significant boost if they can qualify for the Champions League via their league position or by winning the Europa League.

Football Insider revealed on 23 March Villa could be forced to sell Morgan Rogers if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Emery’s side have faced issues complying with the various spending restrictions over the past few years.
| Competition | Performance |
| Premier League | Fourth |
| Europa League | Quarter-finals (ongoing) |
| FA Cup | Fourth round |
| Carabao Cup | Third round |
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed whether Villa would need to sell one of their key players this summer.
“If they were to finish third in the Premier League and win the Europa League, then you’re not telling me that makes no difference,” said Borson.
“That just doesn’t make any sense. That would be an amazing season for them. Obviously, it’s not as good as getting to the latter stages of the Champions League, but you’d still do €40m (£35m) plus matchday from the Europa League.
“It’s not the £70m that probably Newcastle got from the Champions League round of 16, but it’s still a lot.”
How much Aston Villa could earn from Champions League qualification
Borson revealed the financial rewards on offer for Villa if they maintain their form over the coming weeks.
“Their league position would guarantee them let’s say £160m for finishing in third, so that’s still £200m broadcast all in,” said Borson.
“That would be a very good season, and they’d have guaranteed themselves Champions League next season, where they’d do a minimum of £70m, probably with matchday a minimum of £90m.

“There are some additional costs there, and there are bonus costs and all that sort of stuff, but it’s still materially different from the position where they don’t qualify.
“I can understand if they don’t qualify for the Champions League and the season sort of peters out, then I can see that they would need to try and find some sales.”
Villa’s revenue increased dramatically from £276m in 2023-24 to £378m last season after reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
