Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez sends ‘special’ message after development

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has taken to social media to thank the fans for their support after winning the 2024 Lev Yeshin Award.

The 32-year-old had the opportunity to show off his latest individual accolade just before Villa’s 0-0 Champions League draw with Italian giants Juventus on Wednesday (November 27).

Martinez has now won goalkeeping’s highest honour in two consecutive years, making him the only shot-stopper in the awards’ history to win it more than once.

A fine season at both club and international level helped secure the title, guiding Aston Villa to their first Champions League campaign since 1982-83 and winning the 2024 Copa America with Argentina in the summer.

Emiliano Martinez feeling the love at Aston Villa

Martinez has been a key player for Villa ever since he made the move from Arsenal back in 2020, making 176 appearances across all competitions and keeping 59 clean sheets in the process.

The Villa Park faithful have taken to him too, with supporters unveiling a huge tifo of their goalkeeper ahead of the Juventus game as he presented them with his award.

Grateful for their support, Martinez took to Instagram to let the fans know just how much they and the club mean to him.

After another fine performance against one of Europe’s traditional giants, Unai Emery’s side face another tough challenge on Sunday (December 1), a Premier League game against Chelsea.

They may be winless in their last seven games, but Martinez will no doubt do everything he can to end their torrid run of form.
