Aston Villa star slammed on the way out as ‘Unai Emery dumps not good enough ace’
Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor has took to social media to criticise a player for being “not good enough” after reports of a departure.
Unai Emery’s side have been active in the transfer window after signing Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia.
They’re also linked to a move for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi to replace Diego Carlos, despite fans being less than impressed with that potential deal.
Another notable departure seems imminent at Villa Park. Fabrizio Romano reported on 27 January that Emi Buendia is set for a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen, with an option to buy at the end of the season. This comes despite Buendia signing a new contract with Villa.
The Argentine’s potential exit has sparked reactions, with Agbonlahor taking to X to share his opinion, backing Unai Emery’s apparent ruthlessness, and said: “Buendia gone! Said it for last two years he’s not good enough for where we want to be!”
“Too lightweight and not enough goals and assists! What I like with this manager is if a player isn’t good enough, he won’t hesitate to let go! Top manager now let’s replace him! UTV”.

Football Insider Verdict
Football Insider revealed in December that Emery was open to letting the Argentina international leave in the January transfer window, following his limited game time this season.
He has made just 11 Premier League appearances for Villa in the current campaign. The midfielder, who suffered a cruciate ligament tear in August 2023, missed the entirety of last season but has since struggled to regain his place in the starting XI.
Leeds United had previously shown interest in the 28-year-old, but recent links to Bayer Leverkusen saw fans believing the move was imminent. Their suspicions were confirmed as his departure to the Bundesliga side now looks set.
Despite the exit, Emery has continued to receive backing from Villa, not just in this transfer window but since his arrival at the club. His leadership has been instrumental as Villa push for a Champions League spot again this season.
When players depart, like Carlos or Jaden Philogene, the club have demonstrated they are quick to reinforce their squad. With Buendia now leaving, fans can look forward to potential new signings to further strengthen the team.
