‘Big clubs are sniffing around’ Aston Villa starlet Archer after what ‘I’ve seen’ – pundit
There are “big clubs sniffing around” Aston Villa starlet Cameron Archer after his hat-trick in the League Cup on Tuesday.
That is the view of ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa’s 6-0 win away to Barrow.
Archer, 19, scored Villa’s first, fourth and sixth goals on what was his full debut for the club.
Fellow teenagers Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Carney Chukwuemeka also started, while Caleb Chukwuemeka and Hayden Linley came off the bench.
Quoted by the Independent on 25 August, the young striker admitted it was an “amazing, amazing feeling” and “a dream” start to his Villa career.
And Kenny predicts that a loan spell with a Championship club could now beckon for Archer.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I’ve seen him the other night and he did really well, looks a really good player.
“What a stage to put yourself on, playing first-team football away from home and scoring a hat-trick.
“That will have pricked a few ears up at a couple of clubs and stirred up a bit of interest in him now. So I’m sure there will be big clubs sniffing around.
“Maybe he could go and get a Championship loan now and prove himself and try and get into that Villa team in the future.”

Archer signed his first professional terms with Villa in July 2020.
He spent last season on loan with Solihull Moors in the National League where he scored four times in 26 appearances.
