Aston Villa stars 'hugely excited' as more deals agreed - Whelan
It will “excite” the Aston Villa players that Steven Gerrard has been appointed the new manager, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, cited the 41-year-old’s experience in European competition as a “massive” bonus for the club’s aspirations.
Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Scott Mason, and Jordan Milsom will all join the former Rangers boss at Villa Park.
Gerrard has taken charge of 61 European clashes in his managerial career, winning 32 – a win rate of more than 50%.
Rangers reached the last 16 of the Europa League last season under the stewardship of the Englishman but were eventually defeated by Slavia Prague.

His record in Europe will have been a contributing factor in his appointment, with Aston Villa owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris making no secret of their lofty ambitions for seasons to come.
Whelan insisted Gerrard’s experience on the continent is “huge”.
“He demands respect, not only because of what he’s done as a player in the Premier League – but also because of what he’s done with Rangers,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s got experience in European football as a manager, which is massive because that is where Aston Villa are aspiring to be as a club.
“To have a manager who has had a taste of that is huge.
“The brand of football Steven Gerrard plays will excite the players; it’s attacking but also sound at the back – something Villa haven’t been recently.
“If I was a player at that club I would be hugely excited to be playing under him.”
