Aston Villa suffer major blow as star player ruled out for months with serious injury
By Danny Wright
Jack Grealish has confirmed that he could miss up to three months’ worth of action after suffering a serious kidney injury in the pre-season friendly with Watford on Saturday.
The 21-year-old star was forced off the pitch in the first-half after appearing to land awkwardly while attacking a corner.
However it has since been made clear that Grealish was on the receiving end of a blow to the stomach, which has caused a bleed on his kidney which has since been sorted with an operation.
Speaking via his father’s personal Facebook page, the England Under-21 international has confirmed that he could be out of action until October, missing a potential 12 fixtures in total.
“Absolutely devastated. Got a nasty elbow to the stomach in yesterday’s game which caused a bleed in my kidney,” said Grealish, on Kevin Grealish’s Facebook page on Sunday night, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
“Had a mini op early this morning and will now be out for at least 2-3 months.
“Gutted as season was about to start next week but will be doing everything to come back fitter and stronger.”
Grealish’s set-back is no doubt a major blow to Steve Bruce’s plans as the Villa Park boss is yet to make any additions to his attack force this summer.
There is still time for the Villains to bring in a replacement for the key winger, but they will have to move fast if they wish to do so as their season kicks off on Saturday when they welcome Hull to the West Midlands.
Grealish featured 33 times across all competitions for Aston Villa last season, scoring five goals and supplying five assists in the process.
