Aston Villa surely in pole position for Marcos Senesi transfer amid lucrative offer, it has blown Juventus away

Aston Villa have put themselves in a fantastic position to complete the signing of AFC Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi this summer.

Unai Emery’s side have already made a “concrete move” for the Argentine, with reports in Italy appearing to suggest that the financial details of their offer have blown Juventus out of the water in the race for his signature.

The 28-year-old is also subject to interest from Borussia Dortmund, and they too have made a more financially appealing move than the Italian giants.

Senesi is set to leave Bournemouth as a free agent at the end of the season, and as a result, he looks set to be at the centre of a major transfer race between plenty of clubs.

Aston Villa’s transfer plans have seen him identified as a key target to strengthen their defence, and they are surely in a strong position to ensure that a deal can be struck.

Aston Villa a better proposition than Borussia Dortmund

Villa’s progress as a club has been significant in recent years, and it is clear that it hasn’t gone unnoticed, due to the level of players that they are now able to attract.

A few seasons ago, the Villans would have been incapable of competing for a player with the likes of Juventus and Dortmund, but they are now surely destined to beat both of them to Senesi’s signature.

The second city outfit are offering the defender a deal including “a very high salary and bonuses” according to Corriere Dello Sport, while Dortmund are also prepared to put a lucrative contract on the table.

However, while there potentially may not be much between those two offers in terms of the financial structure, Villa will surely be the clear favourites when it comes to the footballing side of things.

Both clubs are on course to play in the Champions League next season, but a switch to Villa Park would allow Senesi to remain in the Premier League, which is still widely regarded as the strongest and most lucrative domestic league in world football.

Throw in the fact that at Dortmund, he would face competition from stars like Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Sule, and the gametime on offer would also likely be greater at Villa Park.

Marcos Senesi the perfect replacement for Tyrone Mings

Football Insider revealed back in February that Aston Villa are ready to sell Tyrone Mings this summer, as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract.

The Midlands giants are understood to be preparing to try and drum up interest in the 33-year-old between now and the end of the campaign, as he is no longer seen as a first-choice option.

Senesi appears to be being targeted as a replacement for the former Ipswich Town man, and he would undoubtedly provide a significant upgrade at the heart of the backline.

The ex-Feyenoord star has outperformed Mings in almost every key defensive metric so far this season, as his performances have played a key role in Bournemouth’s success.

Throw in the fact that no transfer fee will be needed to bring him in, and it is surely a no-brainer for Villa.
