Injury blow: Young will undergo groin surgery and is facing months out

Steve Bruce should use his contacts at Manchester United to bring these three stars to Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Ashley Young

The winger became a Villa star during his four years with the club between 2007 and 2011 and he has gone on to achieve a great career at Old Trafford. The 31-year-old is nearing the end of his time at United it seems and he could be open to a move to the Championship, where he can still provide a threat on the wing with his pace and pin-point delivery. He produced some great memories while at Aston Villa in the Premier League so the club should urge him to return, where he will play a starring role once again.

Sam Johnstone

Johnstone has already been linked with a loan move to Villa Park and the former England under-20 international would be a great acquisition for Bruce. He is highly-rated and has proven at youth level he has the abilities required to compete in the first team. With Mark Bunn struggling with injury, he would bring good depth to Bruce’s goalkeeping options.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

The young full-back has shown great potential at Manchester United and already has 13 first team appearances to his name but he has only managed a handful under Jose Mourinho this season. At 18-years-old he has plenty of time to push his way into the starting XI but a loan spell with Villa for the second half of the season would allow him to get regular first-team action. He would sure up Villa’s defence, which struggled at the start of the campaign.

In other Aston Villa news, the club are eyeing a move for this Leicester City star.
