Aston Villa to miss out on signing ‘incredible’ player amid new PSR concerns

Aston Villa have been hampered by PSR and FFP restrictions which is likely to continue affecting their transfer targets in the upcoming windows.

The Villains suffered a setback in their ambitions when they didn’t qualify for the Champions League for the 2025-26 season, scuppering their transfer budget and room to spend big last summer.

As a result, they’ve had to consider letting go of their biggest stars to appease the financial constraints, with sources telling Football Insider that Emiliano Buendia could be sold for PSR reasons.

Similarly, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Aston Villa may have to also sell Morgan Rogers to ease financial concerns with his price tag around the £80million mark.

Aston Villa could be beaten by financial superpower Chelsea to Guela Doue

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Unai Emery may miss out on bringing in the talented Ivorian.

Sources told Football Insider that Aston Villa, Brighton and Chelsea are all in the hunt for Guela Doue.

Dubbed as “incredible” by Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior (15 May), the right-back has put himself on the radar of Premier League clubs after impressing for the Ligue 1 side.

The Villains will certainly be pleased with the performances of Matty Cash this campaign, yet there is a distinct lack of coverage on the right-hand side of Emery’s defence.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over whether Villa will try and find some wiggle room to sign Doue, I explained: “I think Matty Cash right now is the undoubted first choice right back at Aston Villa.

“And again, Villa might struggle to get anywhere near what Strasbourg would demand for Doue if they were to sell him due to their FFP and PSR situation.

“So I don’t think it’s a priority for Villa right now as well. And they’ll continue to keep tabs on him as I’m sure host of Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford will do as well.”

Aston Villa must balance PSR-induced sales with retaining integral players

Evidently, the priority for the Midlands club is to offload some of their stars to raise significant transfer funds given the lack of investment last summer.

Sources told Football Insider that Aston Villa will not sell Ezri Konsa as they try to balance letting go of profitable men without reducing the quality of their squad.

A player they could be willing to offload of is Man United target Emiliano Martinez who is one of the highest earners at the club.

The Argentine was linked with a move away from Villa Park over the summer and, at 33-years-old, could provide Emery with an injection of cash should his sale be successful.
