Aston Villa to push ahead in Oscar Mingueza transfer race with Celta Vigo star set for free exit
Aston Villa could be emerging as the front-runners in a bid to land Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza this summer.
Mingueza’s contract at Spanish club Celta Vigo expires at the end of the season, and the 26-year-old is expected to become a free agent.
Aston Villa are among a number of clubs pursuing a deal for Mingueza, with recent developments hinting at a move to the Premier League.
La Voz De Galicia states that Celta Vigo have not heard from the Spaniard about renewing his contract since he changed agents in March, with Unique Sports Group being based in the UK.
Aston Villa’s budget this summer may be tight once again in order to comply with financial rules, so the addition of Mingueza on a free could be a smart move.

Aston Villa’s expected return to the Champions League could also play a part in Mingueza choosing Unai Emery’s side over other options.
The Villans are currently five points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool with seven Premier League matches remaining.

Champions League qualification will boost Aston Villa’s finances in order to strengthen their squad, and they could show greater ambition in the transfer market to attract players.
Mingueza’s arrival would provide much-needed cover and competition for Matty Cash, whilst he can play at centre-back.
Cash has started 28 Premier League games this season, and Emery could welcome the chance to rotate his full-backs more often with the addition of Mingueza to his squad.
Aston Villa in pole position for Premier League star
Sources told Football Insider that Champions League qualification could also prove crucial in Aston Villa’s pursuit of Harry Wilson.
Wilson is in a similar position to Mingueza in that he is set to leave Fulham on a free at the end of the season, and is of interest to multiple Premier League clubs.
The 29-year-old would provide an extra dimension in attack to Emery’s side, who have often relied on Morgan Rogers for creativity this season.
The move to bring Wilson to Villa Park would be budget-friendly for the club’s finances and increase squad depth, in what could only be seen as another smart signing by Emery.
