‘Aston Villa to seal mega transfer deal after PSR escape’ – ‘Monchi is doing his magic’
Aston Villa escaped the 30 June accounting deadline without making a major sale despite fears they would have to part with one of their star men.
The Midlands giants had been close to breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2024-25 campaign but completed a last-minute sale of their women’s team to raise much-needed funds.
Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and Emiliano Martinez are among the Villa stars to be linked with moves away before the September deadline.
Aston Villa missed out on big revenue for next season after failing to qualify for the Champions League last term.
Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted a “mega” sale is still on the cards despite their PSR escape.

Rogers ‘mega sale’ still on the cards, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness admitted that while a PSR breach has been navigated, Villa may need to sell their big-name stars to fund their own transfer business this summer.
Loan stars Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi have returned to their parent clubs – leaving holes in Unai Emery’s squad which must be plugged if they are to continue pushing for a top-five finish.
Wyness claimed Rogers is the most saleable asset at Villa Park.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I still think a big sale is the key to let Villa have some room to improve the squad and let Monchi do his magic in Villa again.
“This will have been the third window in a row where they’ve done some amazing magic to keep within the envelope of PSR.
“I think it’ll take something like a Morgan Rogers mega sale. But I think the Villa fans should trust Monchi and the group there to be able to fill that gap. Unfortunately, that’s just the situation with PSR.
“You’re going to have to sell your high quality, high priced talent in order to strengthen the squad. And Villa, they’ve got European football, so they’re going to need that strong squad again.”

Cash deal hits stumbling block
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (28 June) that Aston Villa are willing to sell Matty Cash this summer but a deal has been held up due to his £100,000-a-week wages.
Emery has given the green light to the right-back completing a permanent move away from Villa Park.
Villa have fielded enquiries for Cash, 27, from clubs in the Premier League and abroad but his salary is proving to be a stumbling block.
