Aston Villa to secure ‘massive fee’ for Matt Targett after Newcastle transfer update – pundit
Aston Villa will be able to sell Matt Targett for a “massive fee” this summer after a successful loan spell at Newcastle.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s future.
As per The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on Tuesday (24 May), the chances of Targett signing for Newcastle permanently have “dramatically decreased” since the end of the season.

The left-back joined the relegation-threatened Magpies in January and made 16 appearances as the club eventually finished 11th.
Targett left the club following the arrival of Lucas Digne from Everton, who is expected to keep his place as first-choice left-back next season.
Kenny does not expect Targett to stay at Villa and claims the club will secure a significant fee for him.
” I don’t think Targett stays after everything that has happened,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Whether Newcastle choose to sign him or not. It looks like they won’t be doing that.
“That being said, I don’t think there will be any problem in finding a new club for him.
“He’s been incredible for Newcastle since he joined them. Any club looking for a left-back will be interested in him.
“He is proven at this level and I don’t think any Newcastle fans would complain if he stayed.
“Villa will be able to get a massive fee for him because of how well he did up at St James’.”

On 8 March, The Chronicle reported Newcastle and Aston Villa have agreed a £15million fee for Targett.
However, as per journalist Andre Hernan, the Magpies have turned their attention to Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi.
In other news, one pundit claims a big-name Aston Villa star is set to be frozen out under Steven Gerrard.
