Aston Villa to sell multiple players to avoid financial breach – Kieran Maguire
Aston Villa must sell this summer in order to comply with Uefa’s financial sustainability rules next season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Villa will be okay under Uefa rules but they will not be able to spend big in the summer.
Unai Emery’s side are guaranteed to qualify for Uefa competition next season and are in the driving seat to qualify for the 2024-25 Champions League.
Competing in Europe is set to provide the club with a significant financial boost, but will also require Villa to comply with Uefa financial rules.
As per Uefa’s regulations, clubs must cap their spending on transfers, wages and agent fees to 80 percent of their overall revenue in the 2024-25 season.
As revealed by Football Insider, Aston Villa have been forced to downsize their transfer budget this summer due to qualification for European football.

Maguire revealed that Villa will have a small budget this summer but explained that they rarely spend big under their current transfer model.
“I personally think that Aston Villa will be okay under Uefa rules because the cap is for 80 percent of player wages,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“You then have agent fees and Villa’s amortisation is not too high by Premier League standards.
“I’ve looked into this, and if they sell a couple of players then they will be okay.
“In terms of player sales and profit from transfers, there is some flexibility for clubs.

“Villa won’t be able to spend vast amounts, but that’s not their model anyway.
“I think it was smart and important for them to tie Emery to a long-term contract because he’s been a brilliant manager for them.“
