‘Aston Villa to turn down £50m Marcus Rashford transfer from Man United’

Unai Emery is not going to splash the cash on making Marcus Rashford a permanent Aston Villa player this summer, Simon Jordan believes.

The Man United loanee has breathed life into the team since his arrival at Villa Park, finally scoring his first and second goals for the Villans in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Preston North End on Sunday, 30 March.

Along with Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Asensio, the Birmingham team have the chance of lifting the FA Cup and winning the Champions League for the first time since 1982, albeit it was named the European Cup then.

His resurgence away from Old Trafford has helped him gain a spot back in the England international team, with Villa fans also ready to extend Rashford’s stay at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old made his feelings very clear about playing for the under-pressure Ruben Amorim at Man United, downing his tools before moving away on loan during the winter transfer window.

And despite impressing under Emery, Jordan does not believe Villa will be prepared to spend the money needed to sign him this summer, especially when his form can fluctuate so much.

Aston Villa unlikely to sign Marcus Rashford permanently after Man United fallout

Speaking live via talkSPORT [31 March, 10:41am], Jordan said: “Rashford is clever enough to know that if he stinks it out at Villa, he’s got a problem coming his way. Everybody with half a brain knew he was going to lift a leg.”

“They [Emery and Thomas Tuchel] back him in a very limited way. Tuchel hasn’t got to deal with him that much. He’ll pick him X-amount of times and perhaps he’ll get us the World Cup – he did the same thing for the Qatar World Cup, turning up and bothered to play a decent season.”

Jim White asked: “You don’t think Villa will buy him?”, to which Jordan responded: “No, I think they’re too wise for it. They’re not going to want to pay £320,000 and a £50m transfer fee – it’s too big a deal.”

Unai Emery focused on 2024/25 campaign rather than summer transfer window

Football Insider verdict

With Champions League and FA Cup success still on the cards this season, Emery will be taking one game at a time rather than setting any of his sights on the summer transfer window.

The staff at Villa Park have already hatched behind-the-scenes plans, with Boubacar Kamara likely to sign a new deal at Villa, but the manager’s focus is best kept on the pitch until the end of the season.

A huge clash against PSG in the Champions League makes the Villans’ chances of lifting the silverware that much harder, which is why many fans will be concerned about the team finishing as high up in the Premier League table as possible.

Rashford can certainly help the team accomplish those achievements, with two goals and four assists in 10 appearances across all competitions, but that might not be enough to persuade Villa into a permanent stay.

A semi-final clash against Crystal Palace awaits Emery’s side at Wembley Stadium, while just five matches separate the Villans from a spot in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena.

It is no surprise to see Emery linked with replacing Amorim at Man United, given his achievements already, and those rumours are only going to increase as the games go by over the coming weeks.
