Aston Villa told to accept £20m Jhon Duran bid – Keith Wyness

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Unai Emery’s side should accept bids of £20million for striker Jhon Duran.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested sections of the club’s support are unenthusiastic about the 20-year-old’s future with the Midlands giants.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (5 August) that Aston Villa remain open to offers for the wantaway striker.

Villa have quoted interested clubs a fee of £40million – a figure the likes of West Ham and Chelsea are yet to come forward with.

Duran has voiced his desire to leave the club and is reportedly under investigation for his actions on social media after making an ‘Irons’ symbol with his arms while live streaming.

The forward made 37 appearances across all competitions for Emery’s side in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring eight goals.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think Duran is a key departure.

“They’ve been quoting prices around the £40million mark.

“But I’m seeing £20million bids coming in from the interested clubs – I think they’ve got to take that and move on.

“I’m hearing a lot of Villa fans who are not exactly enamoured with Duran as a player.

“I’m sure he can play a role elsewhere. West Ham were linked and at £20million, he’s worth a chance.

“I think Villa will be looking to sell. I expect to see him move for a lower price sooner rather than later.”
