Aston Villa told to U-turn on A-list signing after source's January reveal - pundit

Paul Robinson has told Aston Villa to think twice before signing another striker in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Spurs and England number one is adamant the club have good enough strikers in their ranks already.

Aston Villa’s owners are set to back new manager Unai Emery in the January transfer market.

Sources told Football Insider last week (10 November) that Villa have set their sights on signing an A-list striker in the mid-season window.

Unai Emery is understood to have given the green light to recruiting a versatile operator who can play anywhere across the front line.

When asked by Football Insider if another striker is needed at Villa Park, Robinson said: “I think Villa have enough with [Danny] Ings, [Ollie] Waktins and [Cameron] Archer behind them.

“They do not need another striker.

“None of the three are playing to their full potential but Emery can get that out of them. At the beginning of the season you would have said that was a great strike force. They have been playing in a struggling team that has not been creating any chances for them.

“Yes, those strikers have not played well enough. But, I think they are all talented and Emery will be able to get the best out of them. It is all down to the manager.

Watkins has got so much more to give. He has not been as good for Villa as he was for Brentford.”
