Aston Villa will only sign a player like Todd Cantwell if Jack Grealish leaves, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer admitted the club may struggle to convince Norwich to sell Cantwell.

Football Insider revealed on 21 July Villa are in advanced negotiations to sign the 23-year-old.

It comes amid uncertainty over Grealish’s long-term future.

Asked whether Cantwell would be a good signing for Villa, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, I think it would be.

“But I don’t see it happening. The only way I see players like Cantwell coming in is if Jack is definitely going to leave and they want to take a gamble on a young player who is similar.

“But I don’t see Norwich selling him. They’ve lost Buendia, I don’t see them selling Cantwell and having no creativity in their team.

“I don’t see that happening at the moment. It’s not a transfer that I see happening. I think he’ll stay at Norwich and give it another go this season.”

Cantwell scored six goals and provided seven assists in 33 Championship games as Norwich won the title.

Meanwhile, Buendia found the net 15 times and contributed 17 assists before sealing a £33million switch to Aston Villa.
