Aston Villa transfer news: ‘Incredible’ Matty Cash move expected after source’s reveal
Kevin Phillips has tipped Aston Villa to match whatever Atletico Madrid are willing to pay Matty Cash in negotiations over a new contract.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old is an “incredible asset” the Villans need to keep tied down.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (21 March), Villa are preparing a big-money contract offer to tie Cash down amid interest from Atletico.

A Spanish source has told this site the La Liga heavyweights have been keeping close tabs on the right-back.
They have been making regular checks on the defender ahead of the summer.
However, Phillips suggested a bumper contract could convince Cash to stay at Villa Park.
Phillips told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs: “I was talking to my friend about it today. If I was Matty Cash, I wouldn’t want to go there.
“I’d want to stay in the Premier League. I think he would get the same sort of money at Aston Villa, if he really wanted it. He’s proved he’s a top-quality full-back.
“It just depends on what the player wants. Does he want that lifestyle and the sun, playing in La Liga?
“Would he turn down playing in the best league in the world, in the Premier League, at a club who are clearly progressing? They’re attracting the likes of Coutinho, people like that, with a top-class manager.
“Why would you want to leave? It’s up to the player but certainly, if I was Steven Gerrard, I would not want him to go.

“When you’ve got teams like that putting bids in or showing interest in your player, clearly you’ve got an incredible asset on your hands. Why would you let him go?
“It’s going to cost a lot of money and a headache trying to get the same quality of player. I certainly wouldn’t want to be cashing in, that’s for sure.”
