Jacob Ramsey could be prised from Aston Villa as Keith Wyness shares Tottenham hijack reveal
Former Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness has warned other clubs could “sense fear” and push to land Jacob Ramsey for a bargain price this summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested his former side must push to land the highest up-front fee they can for the 22-year-old if he is to be sold.
Aston Villa revealed an overall loss of almost £120million after tax for the 2022-23 season earlier this month, leaving them potentially in danger of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
PSR prevents top-flight clubs from recording losses of £105million or more over three years.
Meanwhile, finance guru Kieran Maguire has told Football Insider (27 February) that Aston Villa will have to sell players to fund transfers this summer.
Clubs ‘sense fear’ at Aston Villa – Ramsey could go for bargain price, says Wyness
Ramsey is home-grown and therefore any sale would be considered pure profit in the club’s accounts – and extremely helpful as they vie to stay on the right side of PSR.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “As we saw in the Forest case with Brennan Johnson, other clubs sense fear and try and strike a hard bargain. That could happen with Ramsey this summer.
“Brentford came in with a couple of bids before Spurs eventually got him.
“What Villa have got to do is try and get the best up-front fee they can. The add-ons will also be important.

“Of course, the buying club will always want the best deal – and if they sense Villa’s weakness, they will try and push that further.
“But any deal for Ramsey could be connected to another transfer further down the line with another player.”
