Aston Villa fans on Twitter desperate to see striker back at Villa Park

By Will Butcher

Aston Villa fans are desperate on Twitter to see the return of striker Jonathan Kodjia as as soon as possible from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old is representing Ivory Coast and could be unavailable to return to Villa Park until February 5 which is when the tournament final takes place – unless his team are knocked out.

Kodjia, a £15million signing from Championship rivals Bristol City in the summer, failed to score for his country as they drew 0-0 in their opening group game against Togo.

The Midlands giants’ top scorer is now expected to lead the line for a second time on Friday, as the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Max Gradel team up to face the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Aston Villa fans want Kodjia to return soon on Twitter, as Gabby Agbonlahor and Ross McCormack continue to remain fruitless in front of goal following Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Wolves.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Since his move to Villa in the summer, Kodjia has scored nine goals in 23 league games as he looks to fire his new side to an instant Premier League return.

However, manager Steve Bruce has a tough task of gaining his fifth career promotion to the Premier League as Villa currently sit in a lowly 13th place in the Championship table.

In other Aston Villa news, this Belgian defender could be the next new face to arrive at Villa Park.
