Aston Villa star Lucas Digne reacts to Christian Norgaard and Arsenal transfer news

Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne has reacted to a major transfer update regarding Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Digne enjoyed a successful season for the West Midlands club last season, helping them reach the Champions League quarter-finals and the FA Cup semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s men are utilising the summer transfer window to bolster their squad as they strive to win the Premier League.

Amid their efforts to beat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to top-flight glory, Arsenal are closing in on Viktor Gyokeres.

Digne reacts as Arsenal near Christian Norgaard deal

Arsenal’s advances for Gyokeres show Arteta’s appetite to strengthen his attacking ranks ahead of next season.

But the North Londoners are also bolstering their midfield this summer, and are nearing their move for Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.

Fabrizio Romano reported via Instagram on Tuesday, 8 July: “Arsenal complete deal for Christian Nørgaard, new midfielder for Arteta.

“Arsenal and Brentford exchanged all documents last week for Christian Nørgaard, initial fee worth £10million.

“Second part of medical has also been completed with contract signed.”

Romano’s update received a like from Villa’s Digne.

Norgaard set to play role in Arteta’s title challenge

Football Insider verdict

Norgaard’s imminent arrival at the Emirates Stadium will not excite Arsenal supporters as much as Gyokeres’ upcoming signature or their recent capture of Martin Zubimendi.

However, the 31-year-old has proven his worth in the Premier League for Brentford and notched five goals and four assists in the top flight last season.

Norgaard will not be a star player for the Gunners and will likely be outshone by fellow midfielders Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Zubimendi.

But the Denmark international will enjoy game time for Arsenal next season, after Jorginho left the North London club in favour of Brazilian outfit Flamengo.

Jorginho has already shown his class for his new club by scoring one goal and producing two assists in this summer’s Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey also left the Gunners when his contract expired, before he was charged with rape and sexual assault as reported by BBC News.

Partey and Jorginho’s departures mean that Norgaard will likely feature for Arteta’s side across all competitions next season.
