Aston Villa want to sign Kelechi Iheanacho after Leicester offer rejected

Aston Villa want to sign Kelechi Iheanacho in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa want to snap up another free player from Leicester City after their success with Youri Tielemans, who they signed on a free from the Foxes last summer.

Iheanacho, 27, has rejected an extension at his current club and is expected to leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

Villa are keen to sign another forward option as a back-up to star striker Ollie Watkins, with Jhon Duran currently performing that role.

Iheanacho has endured a frustrating season with Leicester, with the forward making just 25 appearances in all competitions, which have yielded six goals.

Five of those goals have come in the Championship, a competition won by the Foxes this season as they clinched promotion back to the Premier League.

Promotion was secured when Leeds United lost 4-0 to QPR late last month, with the league title then won by Leicester when they beat Preston North End 3-0 on Monday (29 April).

Iheanacho has barely featured under Enzo Maresca since the turn of the year, with several matches missed due to his appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.

The Foxes lost Tielemans to Aston Villa last summer after their relegation from the Premier League, with the midfielder now approaching his 50th appearance under Unai Emery after a slow start at Villa Park.
