‘Aston Villa will accept £50m Youri Tielemans offer – it’s better than Rogers leaving’

Aston Villa star man Youri Tielemans is reportedly a target for Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to talkSPORT (12 May), the Belgium international has emerged as an alternative to Bruno Fernandes for the Middle East giants.

Tielemans has been with Aston Villa since joining from Leicester in 2023 and is under contract for two more years.

However, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson has told Football Insider that Aston Villa will be forced to sell players this summer to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted Unai Emery’s side could bank a tidy profit on Tielemans.

‘Aston Villa to prevent Rogers exit by sacrificing Tielemans’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Aston Villa could get “£50million” for a player they signed on a free transfer two years ago.

Tielemans has made 52 appearances across all competitions this term, notching five goals and 10 assists.

Wyness insisted he could be sacrificed to prevent Morgan Rogers from leaving Villa Park.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “In terms of Tielemans – I had mentioned Morgan Rogers as a player Aston Villa would potentially have to sell.

“That would be much against the wishes of the fanbase and the ownership, but they’re going to have to sell someone.

“Tielemans could well be one they sacrifice.

“At £50million, they would consider it. Villa are blessed in a lot of different midfield areas right now.

“Although Tielemans has been very good, it’s going to have to be a good player leaving, because of this PSR situation.

“To me, he’s an easier loss than Rogers. We’ll have to see how it pans out.

“Certainly, Al-Hilal and the Saudis are not going away – that’s for sure.”

Major Rashford update from Aston Villa

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (3 May) that Aston Villa will struggle to sign Marcus Rashford if they do not qualify for the Champions League.

The £40million option-to-buy deal will prove very difficult to pull off without a financial boost given the 27-year-old’s wage demands.

In any case, Rashford will have to take a wage cut to join Aston Villa permanently in the summer window.
