Aston Villa work on striker signing after Jhon Duran twist – sources
Aston Villa are still looking in the transfer market for a new striker despite Jhon Duran’s U-turn, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Duran could now “be in the plans” for Unai Emery.
Duran has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, with Chelsea and West Ham being interested in the striker.
Duran answered his critics by replacing Ollie Watkins and scoring the winner against West Ham in Villa’s Premier League season opener last weekend.
It is believed that is what his role will be throughout this season, working as an impact substitute.
Aston Villa still want another attacker before the transfer window closes
Despite having Duran and Watkins, Villa are looking to improve the squad’s attacking options before the 31st August cut-off.
After qualifying for the Champions League, Villa will have far more games to contend with this season.
The club had been in the race to try and sign Joao Felix and are said to be disappointed after missing out on him as the Portugal international joined Chelsea on a permanent deal from Atletico Madrid.

Emery wants to sign another attack to provide competition and depth, as he wants appropriate cover if Watkins gets injured this season.
Villa will be back in action on Saturday (24 August) as they host Arsenal in their next Premier League fixture.
