Aston Villa youngsters envious as quartet make 'massive step up' - Kenny

The four Aston Villa rising stars recently promoted to senior training are living proof that their fellow youngsters can make it at the club.

So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the quartet given the nod join to first-team training.

As per Birmingham Live on 18 October, Tim Iroegbunam, Hayden Linley Caleb Chukwuemeka and Finley Thorndike have all made the step up.

Thorndike and Iroegunam are waiting for their senior Villa debuts, while Chuwuemeka and Lindley have a handful of appearances between them.

They follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jacob Ramsey, Jaden Philogen-Bidace and Cameron Archer in progressing through the ranks at Villa.

And Kenny claims that Dean Smith has done well to create a culture of upwards mobility at Villa.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “These players are obviously highly thought of and they must have something about them.

“It’s great that they are taking those steps to introduce them. I used to like letting the younger lads join in with us earlier in the week.

“Obviously, when it gets later in the week, you need to be focusing on the game at the weekend.

“But to get them in there, that shows you if they can perform at a higher level. It’s a massive step forward and it will do them a world of good.

“It also shows the other young lads that if you do well in the youth setup then you have a big opportunity.”
