The teenager, who was previously on scholarship terms, does not divulge the length of the contract but initial professional deals are usually of two or three years.
Cox has been a mainstay in Villa’s Under-18s and his progress has been such that he has also made the notable leap to the Under-23s, which is regarded as the penultimate step before joining the first-team squad.
He has made 10 appearances in Premier League 2 this season for the club’s youth team, with the appearances mostly starts and his starting position split fairly evenly between the left and right flanks.
Villa’s senior team are in Championship action on Saturday when they face bottom club Rotherham at the New York Stadium as they aim to secure a third consecutive win following triumphs against Bristol City and Derby.
