Augsburg have rejected Chelsea’s opening bid for left-back Baba Rahman, Football Insider sources understand.

The Premier League champions have made a move for the 21-year-old as they look for a replacement for Atletico Madrid-bound Filipe Luis.

It is understood Chelsea’s initial offer for Rahman was around £8million. But Bundesliga club Augburg value the Ghana international at £14million.

Chelsea are expected to make an improved bid for Rahman as they step up plans to provide back-up for established left-back Cedar Azpilicueta.

The Premier League club have turned their attention to Rahman after agreeing a deal for Filipe Luis to join Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.

The Brazil international will fly to Spain tomorrow ahead of undergoing a medical with Diego Simeone’s team on Thursday.
