Auston Trusty had his ‘best-ever game’ in Celtic draw vs Atalanta
Celtic defender Auston Trusty has ‘got something about him’ after his impressive display in their 0-0 Champions League draw with Atalanta on Wednesday (October 23).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie was deeply impressed with the 26-year-old’s display against the Italian side, especially given the fact he’s playing out of position to accommodate Liam Scales, 26.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were able to put their humiliating 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the previous round behind them to secure a vital point in Italy.
With four points from their first three games in the new Champions League league phase, the Glasgow giants have a real chance of making the knock-out rounds for the first time since 2012-13.
Auston Trusty finding his feet at Celtic
With Scales alongside Trusty and an imperious Kasper Schmeichel in goal, Atalanta struggled against a stubborn Celtic defense, despite enjoying 66 percent possession and recording 22 total shots.
Trusty was busy throughout the 90 minutes, making 18 defensive actions, winning three duels, and having a 92 per cent pass accuracy rate.
“I’m very happy for the boys, they cut out a lot of the things they did against Dortmund, the stupid mistakes”, McAvennie told Football Insider.
“They cut them out tonight and it was great, I thought they could have nicked it when Kyogo came on in the second half and he made runs a couple of times.

“To a man, all 16 of them were great and that was Trusty’s best game for Celtic, that was his best game since coming in.
“He’s got something about him and he’s on the wrong side of the defence.”
