England fans took to Twitter to slaughter Eric Dier after his performance for the national team in their 1-1 draw against Italy at Wembley on Tuesday night.
The Tottenham mainstay was selected in central midfield alongside Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in Gareth Southgate’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
Dier, 24, played the full 90 minutes of the clash, in which Lorenzo Insigne’s controversial late penalty cancelled out Jamie Vardy’s seventh England goal in the first half.
England were fortunate to escape some defensive lapses, especially when Ciro Immobile headed over in the first half, but looked to be closing out a confidence-boosting win until a late intervention from VAR.
Supporters were not overly impressed by the contribution of Dier, who was handed his 25th international camp.
They slammed his “predictable” distribution and one claimed he “couldn’t pick a pass out of a glass cupboard”.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Nice through ball from Tarkowski – but just watch Dier pointing to him to pass backwards instead. The less Dier is involved directing the way #ENG play the better
