Axel Disasi Chelsea exit drama: ‘Major late Tottenham and Aston Villa updates’

Tottenham and Aston Villa fans have received a key update around defensive target Axel Disasi from Chelsea, from Dharmesh Sheth.

Both Spurs and Villa have been chasing the French defender throughout the January transfer window, with Football Insider revealing that Unai Emery’s side have prepared a £50 million bid.

Ange Postecoglou’s side also expressed interest, though many Spurs fans voiced their disapproval of a potential move.

Providing an update on Disasi’s future, Sheth revealed that Tottenham have “ended their interest” while Villa remain “in talks”.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (7:27 pm), he said: “We’ve been saying to you all week that Aston Villa and Tottenham were both interested in signing Axel Disasi from Chelsea.

“Tottenham, we’re told, have now ended their interest in the central defender. Villa are understood to still be in talks.

“We’ve been telling you throughout this transfer window Aston Villa are after a right-sided central defender who can also play at right-back, and he has started only four Premier League games this season.

“If Chelsea can get some loan money for him and reassess him in the summer they might be able to get a big fee for him in the summer as well.”

Aston Villa ramp up search for defensive reinforcements

Football Insider Verdict

This update follows Football Insider revealing on 26 January, which confirmed that Villa had initiated talks over a short-term deal for the French defender.

The club has been actively looking for a replacement after selling Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce earlier this window.

Their defensive concerns deepened when Tyrone Mings suffered a knee injury during their 1-1 draw with West Ham, further highlighting the need for a new centre-back.

Villa have been active in bringing in both Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio on loan from Manchester United and PSG respectively.

Ange Postecoglou in contrast has been crying out for reinforcements only to see a number of players decide against a move.

He looks set to get hold of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich after another dramatic u-turn there, but it appears Disasi won’t be joining him in North London before the deadline.

In other Aston Villa news, officials may not have been doing their job after a bizarre episode in the clash with Wolves.
