‘Back in the title charge’, ‘What a deal’ – Tottenham fans react to ‘unbelievable’ Timo Werner news
Tottenham fans are very excited by the “unbelievable” signing of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner on loan in January.
The former Chelsea man is reportedly set to swap the Bundesliga side for North London very soon as the Lilywhites’ first signing of the winter window.
As revealed by Football Insider (6 January), Werner was expected to have a medical at the club today (7 January) as they close in on a loan-to-buy deal for the German.
The 27-year-old is most recently remembered by Spurs fans for his underwhelming £47.5million move from Leipzig to rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
Despite winning the Champions League during his two-year spell in West London, he managed just 23 goals across 89 appearances and was generally considered a disappointing signing.
While his initial stint in the Premier League did not prove incredibly fruitful, his goal haul in the German top flight speaks for itself having bagged 113 goals and 47 assists in 213 outings for the Red Bulls.
Spurs remain rather thin in attacking options and have just one out-and-out striker in the squad in Richarlison, whose inconsistency has proved a weakness for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Son Heung-min is their top goal scorer in the Premier League this season with 12, but his participation in the Asian Cup means Tottenham will be without their captain for up to a month.
While Werner is far from a guaranteed success, supporters have taken to social media to react to the news and many are confident that he can finally show his best in England.
