‘Baffles me’ – Leeds fans react to ‘pathetic’ Illan Meslier footage from 1-0 Sunderland defeat

Leeds fans were staggered with Illan Meslier after his “pathetic” attempt to prevent Jobe Bellingham’s winner against Sunderland on Tuesday night (12 December).

Daniel Farke’s side saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end with a whimper in the 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light.

The Whites struggled to make clear-cut chances against the Black Cats and nearly conceded in the first-half from Jensen Seelt’s darting header but the Frenchman pulled of a stunning save to keep it level.

However, he undid his excellent work after failing to collect a loose ball entering his box, leaving Bellingham the chance to head home in the 78th minute before getting clattered by the shot-stopper.

Fans were unforgiving of the “frustrating” incident and have taken to social media to blast their goalkeeper.

This supporter dubbed Meslier the “weak link” in the Leeds side and claimed he is as likely to make an amazing save as he is to have a howler.

This fan slammed Meslier for “chickening out” and fumed that he wasn’t able to catch the ball.

One fan criticised him for not committing himself enough to collect the ball.

One supporter has determined that he will not cut it in the Premier League and will need replacing if promotion is achieved.

This fan was left “crying” after Meslier’s mishap.

Some supporters was baffled by his inconsistency in the clash considering his heroics in the first half.

This supporter urged him to “be braver” and improve his standards.
