Barcelona expected 4-3-3 v Celtic: Deadly duo return

By Dominic Toner

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are both set to return to the Barcelona side on Wednesday for the away match against Celtic.

The pair were absent from the club’s shock 0-0 home draw against Malaga as Luis Enrique’s side missed their attacking threat.

Forward Suarez was suspended for the league match and Messi missed out through illness, but both are expected to play in the Champions League clash with Scottish champions Celtic.

Messi, Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Andre Gomes are set to be recalled to the starting XI, with Pace Alcacer, Arda Turan, Rafinha and Denis Suarez dropping out in four changes.

Barcelona are expected to field a strong side as they sit just two points clear at the top of their group, with second-placed Manchester City beating them 3-1 in their last European game.

They will be confident though of lining up against Celtic after an emphatic 7-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Camp Nou.

Defensive duo Samuel Umtiti and Jordi Alba are unlikely to be involved, with the latter playing just 28 minutes on his comeback from injury against Malaga.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to maintain his place in goal and have the same back four of Lucas Digne, Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Sergi Roberto ahead of him.

Gomes and Rakitic are set offer the attacking threat from midfield alongside the consistent Sergio Busquets, with Spanish veteran Andres Iniesta still sidelined with a knee injury.

Messi, Neymar and Suarez will form a recognisable frontline, which will strike fear into the Celtic defence.

The trio scored six of the seven goals in the last European meeting, but may find it more difficult playing in front of the Celtic Park crowd.
