Liverpool are set to ignore Barcelona’s latest ploy to try and sign midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to a reliable journalist.
Guillem Balague, a journalist for Sky Sports and TalkSport, has revealed that Nou Camp officials have given the Merseyside club a deadline of 7pm on Sunday 20 August to accept their offer for the 25-year-old.
The journalist claims that Liverpool rejected the La Liga giants’ offer on Friday and will continue to ignore the deadline from the club.
Balague shared the news on his verified Twitter account on Sunday, and said: “On FCB deadline for Cout. On Friday LFC rejected offer immediately. FCB replied with deadline or offer will go (7pm 2day). LFC will ignore it.”

Earlier in the month Liverpool released a statement from the Fenway Sports Group which clearly stated that no offers would be considered for the attacking midfielder and he would remain at the club.
The statement was followed up by a transfer request from the Spaniard, who then remained out of the Liverpool squad for the opening games of the season with a back injury.
Coutinho joined the club from Inter Milan back in 2013 in a deal worth close to £12 million, and over his four years with the club Coutinho has become and integral part of the first-team squad.
Since moving to Anfield the Spanish midfielder has made a total of 181 appearances across all competitions where he scored 42 goals and provided 37 assists.
