Barcelona owe Man City £20m+ after sensational Ferran Torres news – Borson

Barcelona still owe Manchester City £22million as part of the deal for winger Ferran Torres over two years ago.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the La Liga giants have agreed to pay for several deals on a delayed basis.

Torres, 24, left Man City for Barcelona in January 2022 for £46.3million, including £8.4million in potential add-ons.

But the Catalan club’s latest accounts for 2023-24 have revealed they still owe €26million (£22million) to the Premier League champions as part of the transfer.

Man City agreed Ferran Torres deal on delayed payment schedule

Borson admitted Barcelona’s accounts are “troubling” following their well-documented financial issues.

“It is common that you would pay in instalments, but I think Barcelona’s situation is slightly different,” Borson told Football Insider.

“The whole set of accounts are troubling from an accountant’s perspective.

“They give serious concern around going concern, which is the concept that you are effectively a solvent business.

“There is a whole set of disclosures in there around the challenge they have in signing off the accounts as a going concern even.

“They have limited ways in which they can raise capital because of their structure. In fact, that’s one of the arguments they put to CAS in respect of the breach they had last year.

“Barcelona are financially troubled at the moment and, therefore, in terms of the way they have been doing deals for players over the last few years, they wanted to pay on a delayed basis.

“It is common, but I think the extent of it with Barcelona is slightly unusual, and it’s not just Torres.

“Torres is a player who signed in January 2022 and they still owe €26milllion (£22million), which I think is about half the fee, so they have been paying slowly.”
