Barcelona want to sign player who trialled at Man United as transfer links ‘wide of the mark’

Manchester United’s move for one of the world’s brightest talents has now reportedly hit a stumbling block.

Carrington has produced some top-level talent recently, including Kobbie Mainoo, who is currently forcing his way into Man United’s first team.

Alejandro Garnacho, who has now joined Chelsea, was also a Carrington graduate, but joined the club via a transfer from Atletico Madrid.

Man United have focused on buying players from other academies in recent years, aiming to dodge profit and sustainability regulations.

Cristian Orozco is close to a move to Man United, and reports had suggested that Senegalese midfielder Mouhamed Dabo was also close to moving to the North West.

Mouhamed Dabo appears to be off as Barcelona interest emerges

Africa Foot reported on Wednesday that Dabo was close to joining Man United after a successful trial period at the club.

Manchester Evening News, however, have denied those claims, saying: “Manchester United are not expected to sign Senegalese midfielder Mouhamed Dabo.

“A report claimed Dabo was set to sign for United after a successful trial at Carrington. The Manchester Evening News have been told that the report is wide of the mark.

“Dabo is the captain of Senegal’s U17 national team and has been linked to Barcelona. The same report linking Dabo to United has claimed the Catalan club are interested in his signature.

“It’s not unusual for United to be mentioned in transfer reports in order to give agents leverage,” Steven Railston finished.

Cristian Orozco aims to set the record straight after Man United missed on Moises Caicedo

The news of Orozco joining United and Dabo’s links being false came within hours of each other, and will sting for Red Devils fans.

Despite Dabo potentially not joining the club, Orozco represents Man United with an opportunity to right the wrongs of yesteryear.

Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun reported that since passing on the opportunity to sign Moises Caicedo five years ago, when the Ecuadorian joined Brighton, United have stepped up their scouting projects in South America.

Orozco joins Diego Leon as South American talents who have been signed by Man United this summer, and the pair will look to write their names in the history books when future first-team opportunities arise.
