Barry Bannan has just explained why Danny Rohl would be successful at Rangers
Rangers are still searching for their successor to Russell Martin, with Danny Rohl emerging as a leading candidate for the job.
Rohl left Sheffield Wednesday at the start of August due to the club’s ongoing financial issues caused by owner Dejphon Chansiri.
After being linked to numerous Premier League jobs during the summer, Rohl is now being eyed by Rangers after Steven Gerrard rejected the chance to make a sensational return.
Whilst Football Insider understands that Rohl would be open to taking the Rangers job, there are contrasting opinions on whether he would be a good appointment.

Barry Bannan explains why Rangers should hire Danny Rohl
On one hand, Billy Dodds has warned Rangers about hiring Rohl due to his lack of experience in management, while Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has sung his praises.
Bannan played a huge part in his success at the club, which saw Wednesday survive by the skin of their in 2023/24 before building on that with a 12th place finish in 2024/25.
Speaking to Record Sport, the Scottish maestro said of his former manager: “I think he could be a massive success at Rangers. He loves things like this. Rangers are right up his street because he loves a challenge.
“I’ve never seen a fanbase take to a manager as much as ours did with Danny. And that’s obviously what Rangers need. I think it’s a good match.
“He plays the game on the touchline and that’s what Rangers fans want to see. He’ll believe he can still get Rangers challenging for the league this season. Danny will target winning the title.”
Should Rangers appoint Rohl, he will be up against the pressure from minute one, but this verdict from Bannan will at least fill fans with some confidence.

Why Rohl differs from Russell Martin
Some supporters feel that hiring Rohl would be a huge gamble, arguably similar to their bizarre appointment of Martin.
The 36-year-old has never tasted the success of winning a trophy, with his biggest achievement arguably being a 12th-place finish in the Championship.
Danny Rohl’s record at Sheffield Wednesday |
89 games |
34 wins |
19 draws |
36 losses |
That being said, comparisons to Martin are incredibly harsh on the German tactician, who achieved success at Sheffield Wednesday under difficult circumstances.
On the other hand, Martin has always been handed a war chest of funds at each club, notably at Southampton and then at Rangers.
Despite being heavily backed, he failed to achieve success in Scotland and instead became one of the worst Rangers managers ever. Surely, if given a budget to build his own squad, Rohl would do miles better than his predecessor.
