‘Bayern Munich rejected after Liverpool impress Florian Wirtz’ – Cash update

Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz has rejected a move to Bayern Munich in favour of joining Liverpool amid interest from both the Bundesliga title winners and the Premier League Champions.

Wirtz has enjoyed a stellar campaign for Xabi Alonso’s men, providing 10 goals and 12 assists in 31 German top-flight appearances.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley told Liverpool News that the Anfield giants have the money to sign the Germany international.

Arne Slot’s men could be set to sign two Leverkusen stars this summer, having already agreed personal terms with Jeremie Frimpong, as exclusively revealed by Football Insider.

Wirtz snubs Bayern for Liverpool after Vincent Kompany talks

The 22-year-old played a key role when Leverkusen enjoyed an invincible league and cup double during a remarkable 2023/24 campaign.

According to the Sunday Times (25 May), the Bundesliga giants have set an asking price of £126million for Wirtz’s services, but there is a feeling that they will accept a lower fee which can be paid in add-ons.

The report adds that Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes will lead the negotiations and has already established a line of communication with Leverkusen over Frimpong, with the Reds’ project turning the German’s head despite talks with Vincent Kompany.

As per the Times, Wirtz is impressed by the scale of the Anfield club’s ambitions under Arne Slot, while Bayern president Herbert Hainer has confirmed that the Leverkusen man has rejected their approach.

Liverpool are prepared to sell four attackers this summer

Liverpool’s advances for both Wirtz and Frimpong demonstrate Slot’s appetite to further improve his squad after winning the Premier League title this term.

It could be argued that Frimpong’s acquisition is one being made out of necessity, with homegrown star Trent Alexander-Arnold heading to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

But adding Wirtz to his ranks is a clear indication that Slot is keen to further bolster his ranks to battle for more silverware next season.

Meanwhile, as the Dutchman looks to further strengthen his Liverpool squad, he will also have to sell some of his current talent during the summer transfer window.

Everton’s former CEO, Keith Wyness, has exclusively informed Football Insider that Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott could all depart Merseyside this summer.

Meanwhile, the pending addition of Wirtz would push Elliott further down Slot’s pecking order, while the Englishman has attracted interest from Nottingham Forest.
