BBC pundit predicts Liverpool v Manchester City, compares player to Giggs

By Dominic Toner

Martin Keown has predicted Liverpool to suffer a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League.

The former Arsenal defender has picked out Manchester City’s winger Leroy Sane as a huge danger and compared him to a “young Ryan Giggs”.

The 21-year-old has begun to settle at Man City following his summer arrival and has now scored seven times in 25 appearances.

He has been compared to Manchester United’s all-time appearance maker Giggs, who scored 168 goals in 963 games for the Red Devils.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be particularly wary of the pacy wide man, but will be confident after winning the previous meeting with Man City this season 1-0.

BBC pundit Keown does not see a repeat scoreline and has backed Man City to pick off Liverpool on the counter attack.

“Away from home, Liverpool are not nearly as threatening as they should be,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “They press very high to try to win the ball back but when they don’t, they become very stretched.

“Liverpool’s opponents will then knock it long and sting them on the counter-attack.”

Liverpool do have their own attacking talents who can punish Man City, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

The Merseyside club have picked up six points from recent games against Arsenal and Burnley, meaning they will be in good spirits ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

Klopp’s side are unbeaten against teams in the top six this season and have managed to rise to the big occasion, but have been sloppy against teams at the bottom of the table.

Liverpool’s make-shift left-back James Milner is likely to be in direct competition with dangerman Sane and that may be a major concern for supporters.
